Hey oppo, this is my first post so let me tell you guys a bit about myself. I have been into cars for half of my life and only recently have I been able to call myself a car enthusiast. To be honest, the biggest reason I became an enthusiast was because I was getting my licence and teenage hype. But now that I have that licence, I am here to stay because car culture has grown on me so much since then. My first and current car is a manual 1984 e28 533I which is in an amazing condition.
I also like to do my own work if possible (but I will not touch most electronics) Just recently I did my front brakes and rotors; wanted to do the back but the jack was too small.
Old rotor and my super worn brakes aren’t shown, but they had less than an inch on them.
And the new slotted and drilled rotor
Also some time ago I put in a Kenwood stereo (don’t worry I made sure it wasn’t an ugly one) and sine nice Pioner speakers. It may have been fairly cheap, but for $200 I have a much better system than the stock one that barely picked up radio. For now I think that is all there is to know about me, except for the fact a love the 533I mostly for the reason the 535I overshadows it and I can relate to that. I’m so glad to be a part of this community and look forward to its future. Here’s hoping I don’t get kinja’d on my first post.
P.s. What’s the basement? Is there candy down there?

I’ve never been in the basement, but for a brief moment, I shined a flashlight down the stairs. I caught a glimpse of what looked like a battered, bearded Ray Wert face, but I’m not sure. Some say you can hear REM playing down there on the 5th day of every month.

Yeah I do love the older BMWs a lot, the newer ones just don’t have that aesthetic oomph that the classics do.

There were some in my neighborhood but they put huge spine rattling speed bumps everywhere, but there are a few that are still fun under 30 that aren’t speed bumped.

Love! How ‘bout them odometer gears? Service Interval light on yet?
Too late now, but the E34 540i brake upgrade is cheap and effective. I did so on my E24, and it really made a difference.

Yeah my odo is broken, if I recall correctly it’s at 800 thousand something. And my service light is nice and green in the middle; I may like to do my own stuff but my dad knew a mechanic who worked out if his garage and we had him fix all the electrical stuff and make sure everything was in top condition (new airbox, various oils changed, nee spark plugs etc.) I’m not sure if and when I’ll ever fix the odo, I plan on keeping the car for most of my life so eventually it would need a new engine in the future anyways. Also it’s kinda illegal to have an incorrect odo and I don’t know how I’d fix it and not have legal issues.

Hopefully I won’t have any break down stories, but having a break down builds character, or so I’ve heard. Though I should probably replace the battery that is more than likely older than 7 years.

Thanks, I think the reason she is so clean is because I’m the third owner and the second treated her with lots of love, until she sat for a year or so and mice got into the electrics, but that’s been fixed and I will do my best to keep her clean as possible.

Oh that’s right, I didn’t mention her name in the post. I’m not sure it’s the most appropriate name, but Lucy, I call her Lucy. Also the bonding process is a bit interesting, she has some funny quirks like 2nd gear is a bit difficult (could just be me) or how I have to be doing below 5mph to put it in 1st, she’s still super fun and I have no complaints.

The things I want to do first are fix the sunroof motor and get a light window tint, one that blocks a bit of sunlight but still looks reasonable. Other than that, I am more than likely to get new front and back bmw badges since they are pretty worn, and maybe get a Momo Indy steering wheel since the stock wheel is definitly showing its age. Any mods that I do, I try to make sure it blends with the cars style and age because I don’t feel like ruining a good car with unfitting mods.

Odo gears are cheap , and it’s not a difficult process : probably an hour or two your first time around. Trust me, it looks daunting, but it really isn’t that bad.
I had SI board issues in mine, so by the time I was done with it I could pull the gauge cluster in 15 minutes. Failed SI boards are usually the batteries; a set of modern NiCd can be soldered in fairly easily, as well. Great cars otherwise. Happy wrenching!

That is quite a good price, but my biggest concern would be how out of sync it is, the previous owner doesn’t know how many miles he’s drivin since it broke and I’ve put some on as well (not much just town driving) and I’m not sure if there would be legal problems because of odo tampering.

True, but it is a 32-year-old car, and the title should already be marked “MILEAGE NOT ACCURAGE” (if they have that in your state; they do in AZ). Also, it’s good for tracking mileage and maintenance.

Looks like CA has a “Not Actual Mileage” box that can be ticked. Normally I just go out and fix stuff but I was scared of the law on this one, but it doesn’t look like it will be a problem. Honestly if I get my way and get to keep it through and after college then having an inaccurate odo shouldn’t even be a problem. Also CA has a “Exceeds Mechanical Limits” box so fancy that.
